PLEDGES MORE SUPPORT FOR SEVEN YEAR OLD GOLD MEDALIST

Foremost philanthropist Hon. Diepreye Abaye Leghemo, has praised Nigeria’s youngest gold medalist, Deborah Quickpen, for her exploits in the game of Chess, describing her as a role model to other children in the state.
Hon. Leghemo commended the seven year old champion, during a courtesy call by the Team Support Deborah Quickpen, in his office on Monday, in Yenagoa.
The philanthropist, who donated five hundred thousand naira to support Deborah, in her quest to participate at last year’s African Chess Championship in Windhoek, Namibia, however charged her to prepare adequately for the next championship, and ensure absolute victory at the tourney.
He expressed his readiness to continue to support Deborah in her future competitions, albeit early notification, describing the youngest gold medalist as his project moving forward, adding that he is always willing to assist people in need, so as to have a better society.
“I dont want to find myself in that category of people that can’t make little money for themselves and want to eat it all by themselves. People who know me in Bayelsa, as far as its for success, am willing to contribute. I always feel happy when someone else is happy because of my assistance, so whatever we can do we always do it to see everybody gets better in the society”.
“My appeal to you guys is while you are putting her on more training, while you are on the process preparing her for more competition, put me on the notice early enough. She is my project now. She has a talent and all we need to do is support her to get there, and by the Grace of God she will get there”.
Hon. Diepreye Abaye Leghemo, while receiving an award of honour for his support towards the National champion from the Team Deborah Quickpen, thanked them for the award, stressing that out of his numerous assistance to several persons or groups, it was the first time ever, he will receive any form of appreciation.
“Between me and you this is the first time someone is coming back to say thank you, I have never seen anyone, both the once on scholarships that every January I pay their fees, even when I don’t know them, their parents have never come here to say thank you. Well, we are not doing because we need any form of appreciation, we are doing it so that we can also contribute to them, so whether they come or not it will not even change our person.
Earlier, Deborah’s Promoter, Patrick Ndubuisi, hinted on their mission, which was to expressed their gratitude to him for his donation to the Team Support Deborah Quickpen project, which he said was instrumental for her trip to Namibia, and to present him with the award of honour, as he called on him no to relent in his desire to touch lives, especially the less privileged in the society.
“We want to say a big thank you to you for the support you gave us when we went seeking for funds. It shows that you have a large heart. Despite not holding any political office, you are one of the few persons that responded to our yearning. So on behalf of the Team Support Deborah Quickpen, we thank you so much, and urge you not to relent in assisting those who call for support”.
Also speaking, Deborah’s father, Ben Quickpen, stressed on his drive to ensure Deborah excel in her studies.
Also with Deborah Quickpen and her support team, during the visit were the parents, Mr and Mrs Ben Quickpen, as well as entertainment and online social media expert, Barakumo Solomon Odede.
